DoIt4Don

On Saturday, Kirsteen Davidson gave a wonderful private recital at her house in Moffat, of works for piano by two contemporary living composers, Max Richter maxrichtermusic.com and Vroni Holzmann www.vronionline.net. The evening was by way of a warmup for two concerts Kirsteen is giving to larger audiences in bigger venues, and all three are in aid of her cousin Donald Macleod. Don, former editor of the Guardian Education Supplement, and at the time Communications Officer for the Russell Group of universities, was cycling to work in May 2010 when he was in collision with a speeding police car. The case is still going through the courts, but it can be said that it was the sort of accident that makes one very aware of one's blessings. Don was left severely brain-damaged, and had to move from the NHS neurological unit where he was receiving treatment into a nursing home. The fund Kirsteen and his family and friends are raising cash for will enable him to be looked after at home in Edinburgh where his eldest son lives with his family.
